As chief operating officer and cofounder of Clarus, Tonka's primary role is to oversee the operation of assets in the Clarus investment portfolio.

Tonka graduated summa cum laude from the University of California at Berkeley with a B.A. in anthropology. Following the completion of her undergraduate degree, Tonka completed a year of postgraduate work in French language and cultural studies at the University of Pau in France. She has completed graduate level work in nautical archaeology at the Texas A&M University and also holds a teaching credential in early childhood education from San Francisco State University.

Prior to her tenure at Clarus, Tonka co-managed with Ian Formigle the acquisition, rehabilitation, management and disposition of numerous residential properties in California, beginning with the rehabilitation and condo-conversion of a two-unit building in San Francisco in 1998. Since cofounding Clarus Tonka has been intimately involved with practically every function of Clarus.

Tonka is an outdoor enthusiast and enjoys activities such as sea kayaking and scuba diving. She particularly enjoys international travel, having spent significant amounts of time in more than thirty different countries.  As a result of her travels, she converses fluently in five different languages. She is also a connoisseur of gourmet food and foreign cinema. Tonka possesses an eye for precision and an unyielding expectation of excellence in all facets of her life that serve to the great benefit of both Clarus.
